God Friended Me is a fairly new series. It started in September of 2018 and if it hasn’t already, the first season is about to come to a close. The series, as its name suggests is about Miles Finer, an atheist with a podcast that’s on the verge of dying when he gets a friend request from a ‘God’ account on Facebook.
Brandon Michael Hall, who plays Miles Finer is the preacher’s son which is ironic considering he has trouble believing in God. But when he reluctantly accepts a persistent God Account’s friend request, which turns his life upside down, his faith is tested, and his podcast is saved. The series intertwines what most believe to be fate and the question about whether God exists or not. There are movies and shows that uncomfortably focus on the subject of religion and despite the theme, this isn’t one of them.
It’s interesting to see how everyone is connected in the show. It’s even more interesting to see Miles start to come around after the God account undoubtedly changes his life. It’s like a domino effect.
The account helps Miles by allowing him to help those who need it the most. While he’s conflicted about having to submit to ‘God’, he equally does his bidding and tries fruitfully to find out who’s behind the controversial account.
If you’re looking for something unique, I think God Friended Me might be exactly what you’re looking for. There’s nothing better than a show that remains interesting even after you’re aware of what direction it’s heading. It’s great, and hopefully it’s renewed for a second season!
