Trevor King is known for his love, passion, dedication and influential presence in the Arts and Entertainment industry in Saint Lucia and across the Caribbean; His career spans some 22 years. His contribution to the evolution of the Performing Arts and entertainment Industry on the island has placed him in several leadership roles throughout his career.
For the past 20 years, Trevor has been an active member of the performing arts society. He began his dance career as a student of the Vide Bouteille Secondary School and later joined the Christylights Dance Company. While with Christylights he was given the opportunity to attend the Edna Manley School for Visual and Performing Arts, an experience he has not regretted to date. He has been tutored by the late Professor Rex Nettle Ford, Edward Revero; the late Joseph Robinson, the late Denise Jefferson of the Alvin Ailey American dance theatre and Troy Powell artistic director Ailey 2 among others.
Trevor has performed with Les Enfants Dance Company, Chamalion Dance Ensemble, Silver Shadow Performing Arts Academy, St Lucia Dance Theater Company, and Koubajt. His many performances as a dancer include major productions such as Movements, a Les Enfants Dance Company Production. Dance in Motion, Folk Ways and Earth Crisis with Chamalion Dance Ensemble, Long Flight to Freedom – a Factory Theatre production, New Works and Soul by St Lucia Dance Theater Company among others.
Mr. King’s Talents transcend dance. Today he continues his work as a Tutor, Choreographer, Entertainment Manager, Producer and Talent Scout. Trevor’s choreography and artistic direction includes, Cry – St Lucia Dance Theater Company, Anthem – Saint Lucia’s 25th Anniversary of Independence, Esperance – Saint Lucia’s 30th Anniversary of Independence, Sarafina and Banjoman, which were commissioned by the Jubilee Trust Fund and the Cultural Development Foundation. His experience at Sandals Halcyon includes – Broadway, Evening with the Stars, Now playing Hollywood and For the Life of Bob. He has also been the choreographer of “Urban Drift”, Saint Lucia’s presentation at Carifesta.
He has received the awards for outstanding Choreography and for his work in the creative masterpieces Orifice and Masking The Identity. Mr. King has represented his native country Saint Lucia at a number of regional and international festivals including Carifesta, Francophone Games in Ottawa, Hull and a number of other dance festivals.
In 1999, he joined the Sandals family, a decision that would change his life forever as a Playmaker. Within two years he was promoted to the post of supervisor. Trevor continued to excel, having received numerous awards including Supervisor of the year and General Manager’s award to name a few. March 2003, just four years later, Trevor’s dream was realized, having been given the opportunity to lead a team of twelve individuals as head of the Entertainment Department of Sandals Halcyon. His transformation of the entertainment team within months of his appointment, led to requests for his team to perform at various functions. It was victory for the team that year as they got the award for Department of the Year and he received the award for Manager of the Year.
In March of 2007, his journey would continue as he was given a bigger challenge as Entertainment Manager of Sandals Regency and so he continued to excel. In May of 2008 he was posed with yet another challenge as his portfolio included Photoshop and Entertainment Manager, two roles in one. To date no one has successfully achieved this. His hard work was rewarded at the 2012 Prestige Awards as he was again named, Manager of the year.
His thirst for more would now take him onto production. Having produced and directed the Saint Lucia National tourism Awards, the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association Pageant, Annual Team Member’s Awards and numerous other events on the island, he felt confident. To date he has under his belt thirteen award winning talent segment performances. Trevor King enjoys the recognition and reputation of being one of Saint Lucia’s best choreographers and cultural activists. His attention to detail in the art form has earned him national popularity and his expertise is constantly sought after. Trevor King has a unique ability to plan and execute effectively the tasks before him. It is therefore no surprise, that he has risen over the years to becoming a leader in the entertainment and creative industries.
Trevor’s love for the arts extends to carnival, having formed an integral part of the Red Unlimited and Red Rebellion Carnival bands. Presently Trevor is a founding member and Heads the Creative Team of the FUZION MAS Carnival Band. His love for pageantry started with his participation and victory in 1993, in the Mr. Teen Saint Lucia pageant. He has been talent coordinator, chaperone and consultant to many contestants locally and regionally. In 2011, he formed part of the National Carnival Queen Show Committee in the capacity of production manager and producer, a position he held for three years. In 2015 Trevor took up a different role and made history of becoming the first male appointed to Chairperson of the National Queen Show Committee and by far produced one of the most talked about shows to date.
His latest work was a full-length theatrical production commissioned by the government of Saint Lucia and the Creative Industries for the Jété Program 2015 dubbed “ONE ISLAND” to mark the celebration of Saint Lucia’s 36th Independence Anniversary.
His journey and achievements reflect the possibilities available through opportunity, ambition and a commitment to be the best you can be. Trevor holds a master’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources. He now Heads the Entertainment division in the Eastern Caribbean as Regional Group Creative Manger – Entertainment for Sandals Resorts International.
